Vikla Golf & Country Club Local Rules

Out of Bounds (OOB) (Rule 27)

A ball is out of bounds if it is beyond any Boundary Fence or beyond any line of White Stakes.

Fairways and Fairway Marker Stakes

All Fairways have been marked with Blue Topped Stakes.

The start of each fairway is marked with a larger square blue topped stake. These larger square topped stakes are also used as distance markers along each fairway.

A ball lying outside these fairway markers will be considered to be “in the rough” and will be played as it lies.

Fairway marker stakes at the edge of sand or grassed bunkers are deemed to follow the natural contours of the bunker and not taken literally as a straight line between each stake.

You are advised that, in order to prevent damage to your golf clubs, YOU may declare your ball to be unplayable, at any place except in a Water Hazard, and proceed under Rule 28.

Moveable Obstructions (Rule 24.1)

Stones in Bunkers, Rakes, Blue Fairway Marker Stakes, Water Hazard and Lateral Water Stakes.

Immovable Obstructions (Rule 24.2)

Buildings, Tee Constructions (current and unused), Fixed Sprinkler Heads, Tractor Tyre Marks, Electrical Junction Boxes, Telegraph Poles, All Irrigation Equipment, All Roads and Pathways.

Environmentally-Sensitive Areas/Ground Under Repair

Telegraph Poles, Overhead Cables & Junction Boxes

A ball striking any of the above items must be abandoned and replayed without penalty

Staked Trees

If a staked tree interferes with the player’s stance or swing, relief MUST be taken under Rule 24.2

Use of Mats and Preferred Lies Qualifying Competitions

Must only be used when ball lies within the staked fairways.

May be used within staked areas on any fairway, i.e. Not just the fairway in play.

Using a Mat:-  Mark the ball position, place the Mat on the top of the ball position and place the ball on the mat as near as possible to the original ball position, but no closer to the hole.

Using a Preferred Lie:-  Mark the ball position, lift and place the ball within 6” of the original ball position, but no closer to the hole. When taking a preferred lie player may improve only the lie of the ball and must not improve line or swing.

A Ball may be cleaned before being replaced.

Use of Mats and Preferred Lies –Non Qualifying Competitions

Prior to commencement of a non qualifying competition the committee will decide where mats may be used on the course.

Using  Astroturf  (Mats)

Mats can be of any shape but not less than 8” in diameter/square Mats must not be used to aid alignment Mats may be used on a Tee Mat. The mat is not to be marked or interfered with in a way that would provide an advantage to the player. The ball must be placed not less than 3” from the front or rear edge. If for any reason the ball cannot be made to stay on the mat, relief may be taken by placing the ball on the ground, and using a preferred lie. Mats must follow the natural contours of the course and should not be supported, bent or shaped in any way to allow the ball to remain on the mat.

Practice on the Course - Qualifying Competitions

Practice on the course, prior to the commencement of a Qualifying Competition, is only allowed on or around the 18th Green, as long as it does not interfere with play.

AVOID SLOW PLAY AT ALL TIMES

    Amended 24th April 2009

Pace of Play Guidelines for Vikla Golf Club

Adapted from the R&A guidelines, taking into account the age profile and typical skill level of players at the club.

It is a fact that slow play detracts from the enjoyment of the game for many golfers, and few golfers are heard to complain about play being too quick.

At all levels of the game, therefore, there is a responsibility on players and administrators to ensure that golf is played at a good pace, and a pace that is appropriate to the course being played.

As a guide, based on times recorded in carious competitions at Vikla:

4-ball rounds normally take around 4 hours 30 minutes (15 mins per hole); 3-balls around 4 hours 2-balls no more than 3 hours 30 minutes.

Typically, some groups complete the round at least 30 mins faster than these norms.

Things that players can do to help to minimise round times:

    ·  In Stableford competitions, pick up the ball when it is no longer possible to score any points

    ·  Move quickly to your own ball

    ·  Do not wait until it is your turn to play before calculating your yardage and selecting your club.

    ·  Look at your own line of putt while the other players in the group look at theirs (within the bounds of normal etiquette).

    ·  Play a provisional ball if your ball may be lost outside a hazard or out of bounds.

    ·  At the green, position your bags so as to allow quick movement off the green to the next tee.

    ·  Move off the green as soon as all players in your group have holed out; mark score cards at or on the way to the next tee.

    ·  Be aware of your position with regard to the group in front -  it is your group’s responsibility to try and keep up with the group in front. If you keep up with the group in front, you cannot be accused of slow play.

    ·  If you feel that your group is falling behind, advise the other players in your group.

    ·  If your group is behind, try to catch up quickly.

    ·  If you lose a clear hole and are delaying the group behind, or if there is no group in front of you and you are delaying the group behind, invite the group behind to play through.
